At the heart of faith, prayer is at once the simplest and the most mysterious of tasks, and yet it can feel like one of the most difficult. But there are as many ways of praying as there are people, and in this series of workshops we explore different aspects of prayer and ways of praying. The afternoons are open to anyone curious to learn more about prayer or interested in deepening their own prayer life.

The Psalms cover the whole range of human emotion: from joy and exuberant thankfulness to rage and despair, they are a passionate, honest, sustained conversation with God. They were the prayer book of the people of Israel, and they were Jesus’ own prayer book: he would almost certainly have known many of them by heart, and they echo in his words throughout his ministry, even on the cross. Many of them are familiar to us from church services, but these ancient prayers can still often seem remote and difficult. Can wefind a way for them to form a part of our own life of prayer, perhaps even finding in them a way to greater honesty and intimacy with God?

Nicolas Stebbing is a monk in the Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield and the Founder- Director of Tariro UK, a charity working to transform the lives of orphaned children in Zimbabwe (tarirouk.com).

Cost £15 per session, bursaries available. The afternoons take place at different locations and details will be sent with bookings. Bursaries are available for those for whom the charge would make it difficult to attend: please contact us for details.
