Event description
We are offering free CPD for teachers based on the University of Bristol’s popular Thinking Science resources.

About this Event

Would you like to develop students’ thinking skills in the science classroom?

We are offering free CPD for teachers exploring how to incorporate thinking and discussion into science lessons and consolidate curriculum knowledge using the Think Science Resources developed by the University of Bristol.

The Thinking Science resources feature philosophical questions based on science topics and accompanying facilitation techniques to easily include them in lessons. They were created by local teachers and academics at the University of Bristol.

Teachers tell us that using the Thinking Science resources can:

• Support teacher questioning

• Improve engagement of students who do not normally engage in science

• Highlight misconceptions and gaps in knowledge

• Help give students confidence to approach higher mark exam questions

• Improve students’ literacy and scientific literacy

The CPD session will include interactive examples of philosophical discussions, creative facilitation techniques and practical advice for integrating the approaches into lessons.

The resources were designed to accompany KS3 science but have been regularly adapted and used by primary teachers and those teaching KS4/5. This session is open to any science or primary teacher.

This CPD session is free for teachers to attend and will be delivered by the Thinking Science team at the University of Bristol with support form the STEM Ambassador Hub West England.

"[The CPD session] was brilliant - participating in the activities helped me see how to implement strategies/variety of thinking skills into the classroom.”

“Every now and again a resource appears that just makes you stop and wish that you could find more of them; this is one of those resources.” School Science Review, Association for Science Education
