About this event

Science & Tech • Other

We are delighted to invite teachers from across Suffolk to explore our newly relaunched visitor centre at the Suffolk energy-from-waste facility in Great Blakenham. During the evening teachers will have the opportunity to find out how Suffolk’s waste is transformed into energy and how our facility can support your teaching.

Our site is proud to hold the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, recognising our commitment to high-quality, safe educational visits. Join us to discover how we can help bring STEM and environmental education to life in your classroom through our engaging class visits or sessions run in your school.

The Suffolk EfW processes 295,000 tonnes of domestic and commercial waste each year, generating enough electricity to power 50,000 homes. Our objective is to provide an alternative to waste being sent to landfill, and to reduce the associated cost to Suffolk tax payers, by turning non-recyclable waste into energy.

The visit will start at 4.30pm and last about 2 hours. It will include a tour of the facility and time spent finding out more about what our newly refurbished visitor centre has to offer.

Please be aware that although the visitor centre is accessible, the tour is not suitable for people with mobility issues or vertigo due to the number of stairs and mesh walkways.

Dress code

• During the tour, full length trousers must be worn at all times for safety. Shorts, skirts or dresses are not permitted.

• Please ensure that you wear sturdy, sensible footwear - i.e. walking boots or trainers. Sandals, flip flops or heeled shoes are not suitable.

• Whilst on the tour you are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by SUEZ including a hard hat, high visibility jacket, gloves and safety glasses.

Anyone failing to comply with the dress code will not be permitted on the tour.

Please be aware that this is an operational site therefore operational issues will always take priority over visitor tours. Tours may be cancelled at late notice.

Please note that it is not necessary to print a copy of your Eventbrite ticket.
