Newman University Teacher Training Open Evening
If you are looking at a career in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level, come and find out why Newman University could be the ideal choice for your route to gaining qualified teacher status.
Our Faculty of Education has been training teachers for 50 years with over 13,500 students becoming qualified teachers through Newman University's teacher training courses. Academic staff will be available to discuss undergraduate and postgraduate routes into teaching, Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) and Skills Test support with prospective applicants.
We offer two undergraduate BA (Hons) routes to qualified teacher status (QTS)
Primary (3-7) - 3 and 4 year options
Primary (5-11) – 3 and 4 year options
plus 1 year progression routes from foundation degree level for the above options.
For alternative non QTS degrees which lead to the PGCE Primary route we offer
Early Childhood Education and Care BA (Hons) and
Studies in Primary Education BA (Hons)
We offer the following 1 year PGCEs for graduates :

- Primary(3-7) - Early Years and Key Stage 1
- Primary (5-11) - Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
Secondary
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computing
- English
- Geography
- History
- Mathematics
- Physical Education
- Physics
- Religious Education
School Direct
We also work with 12 partner Teaching School Alliances to provide School Direct PGCE routes to QTS at Primary and Secondary Schools across the Midlands.
For those applicants who do not have sufficient subject knowledge prior to starting their PGCE, Newman University offers Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses in: Computing, English, Geography, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Newman University offers FREE support sessions for teacher training applicants in preparing for national Skills Tests.
