Description

Join curators for a private view of two new exhibitions that approach portraiture in distinctly different ways.

Refreshments provided.

All nursery, primary and secondary school teachers welcome.

The Long Look is a collaboration between the painter Audrey Grant and her sitter, the photographer and printmaker Norman McBeath. It explores the art of portraiture beyond the conventional artist and sitter relationship, revealing what became a unique creative exchange between the two artists. Audrey asked Norman to sit for a portrait and asked him to photograph the drawing at the end of each sitting. She would then erase the drawing at the start of the next sitting and begin the portrait anew. The four finished portraits, along with the drawings that no longer exist, and Norman's photographs will be on display in this fascinating and revelatory exhibition.

The Long Look runs from 25 May until 27 October 2019

ARTIST ROOMS Self Evidence: Photographs by Woodman, Arbus and Mapplethorpe celebrates the work of three of the twentieth century’s most influential photographers. With a particular focus on self-portraiture and representation, the show explores the connections and similarities between these three Americans, each of whom produced bodies of work that were revolutionary, ground-breaking and at times controversial.

ARTIST ROOMS Self Evidence runs until 20 October 2019
