Event description

Description

Northstead Primary School is hosting a session on teaching for mastery in maths.

Delegates will come away with and an appreciation of the role of a maths hub and how it is linked to the Opportunity Area programme and the region in general.

Mastery of mathematics is something that we want pupils - all pupils - to acquire, or rather to continue acquiring throughout their school lives, and beyond. Understanding of teaching for mastery is well advanced in a large number of primary schools.

This will include details of relevant professional development for 2017/18, longer term strategy, key personnel, channels of communication and available financial support. There may even be some maths too!

The session will be led by Colin Prestwich and Kim Mitchell. Colin is Maths Lead for the Yorkshire Ridings Maths Hub and Executive Faculty leader of Maths for Harrogate Grammar School and SLE for Red Kite Teaching School. Kim is a NCETM trained Mastery Specialist & Teaching for Mastery Lead for The Yorkshire Ridings Maths Hub

Mari Palmer will also be attending from the North Yorkshire Coast Research School by Esk Valley Alliance to talk about their work in this area.

This session is aimed at Headteachers and maths subject leaders in primary schools. Attendees should be from schools in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey.
