Teaching & Learning 'How to' events - English

How to embed English in a vocational setting.

How to differentiate your learning and stretch and challenge learners.


As part of our continued support for the sector, we are running a series of CPD events to improve the delivery of English in a variety of settings.

This day of hands-on activities will look at the importance of English in vocational learning, helping learners to progress and achieve. It aims for non-specialist tutors to identify opportunities to embed English in vocational settings. It also aims to provide tutors with resources and tools to differentiate learning programmes, adapting to different learning abilities and provide opportunities to stretch and challenge learners maximising their potential.

The event is aimed at - non-specialist English tutors, learning support staff and vocational tutors.

This pair of workshops will be delivered over one day.

The first session will cover:

· Reflecting on the importance of maths and English in vocational learning and helping learners to progress

· Clarifying the difference between embedding and discrete delivery

· Identifying opportunities to embed English in a range of vocational courses

· Examining activities which are transferable to various settings

The second session will cover:

· Stretch & challenge learners to meet their full potential

· Differentiate learning to meet the needs of learners at various levels and abilities

· Scaffolding learning using a range of techniques

· Meeting the needs of ESOL learners in mainstream programmes

FAQ's

Do I need to bring anything? - You will be provided with a delegate pack on the day, but all delegates are encouraged to share ideas and experiences to the group on the day. Certificates and a digital copy of the handbook will be emailed out after the event

Parking - Parking is limited in the main car park but there is parking on the road side

Refreshments - refreshments and lunch will be provided - if you have dietary requirements then please email advance@cityandguilds.com

How do I pay? - If you are a registered City and Guilds Centre you may opt to pay on account under your usual credit terms by changing the payment method on the order form to 'pay by invoice' and providing the centre number when prompted. Any attendees who do not have a City and Guilds account will need to pay online using a credit card or debit card.
