Teaching Level 3 Mathematics
Fri 7 July 2017, 09:30 – 15:15 BST
The Yorkshire Ridings Maths Hub are offering a unique opportunity for teachers of level 3 mathematics to take part in their own tailored day of CPD. There is no charge for attending this event.
The day consists of a choice of two from three activities on offer:
Teaching Mechanics: you will explore the teaching and learning of mechanics for the new A-level syllabus through considering common misconceptions, exploring the modelling assumptions made and the use of very simple practical activities. The session is led by Tom Roper, a Fellow of the University of Leeds and President of The Mathematical Association, who has many years experience teaching mechanics in schools and was instrumental in developing the Leeds Mechanics Kit.
Core mathematics: is led by experienced Core Maths leads Colin Prestwich and Mark Pierzchalski. In this practical session you will explore Why and how Core maths should be offered, have a go at some of the resources available, consider the examination specifications available and how core maths can be assessed.
An introduction to statistics: is led by Terry Dawson from MEI. In this session you will consider the “big ideas” in the statistics elements of the new A level curriculum, the use of large data sets and how to link statistics to other parts of the a level specification. It is recommended that you bring your own laptop to this session.
