Description

Join us at Rhodes Avenue Primary School as we look at:

Teaching Maths for Mastery: what it is, what it's not, and what it looks like in your classroom.

This is an excellent opportunity for both primary and secondary teachers, on the day you can expect:

  • Analysis of the characteristics of teaching for mastery

  • Explanation and examples of key aspects such as Variation Theory, Intelligent Practice, and the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract progression

  • Effective activities that apply right across the age and topic range, and which fully support the aims of the National Curriculum

  • Sample materials for lessons, to take away for your own use

  • Advice around practical matters: differentiation, progress, and Ofsted

  • Further information about the professional development opportunities we’re offering in 2017-18

This session will be led by Robert Wilne, his work for the Hub concentrates on: teaching maths for mastery; mathematical reasoning; progression from KS2 to KS3; and network meetings in Enfield and Haringey. Prior to joining us he was the Director of Secondary for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics, where he devised and led professional development to support teachers of maths in KS3-5. Co-directing the Centre’s research into maths teaching in Shanghai, he also had the opportunity of leading two teacher exchanges with Shanghai schools as part of the national Maths Hubs programme.
