Event description

Description

Discover how to deliver and use the primary curriculum in order to get children and young people growing and understanding about where their food comes from. You will learn some of the challenges that schools and gardening projects may face when teaching children and young people about horticulture and some tips to overcome them; where to access worthwhile and meaningful resources; as well as plenty of ideas and activities to take back to your educational settings.

This workshop will teach how to deliver some key horticultural themes to children such as: seed growing, seed saving, planting out and harvesting. This workshop is open to those working with children and looking to get them outside more, to those looking for fresh ideas to teach the primary curriculum with little to no extra resources.

Trainer Louise Purnell is Edible Playground Manager at Trees for Cities, and oversees the programme supporting schools across the UK through their first year of growing, in their ‘edible playground’. The Trees for Cities team, who will also be facilitating the session, deliver school workshops, develop resources and run regular training sessions to improve teacher’s skills and confidence in seasonal food growing and teaching outside across the curriculum.

If you have any mobility requirements, please contact capitalgrowth@sustainweb.org before booking to discuss your particular needs.
