Team GB won more medals in Rio than any previous Olympics in the modern era. As head of the team that supported the athletes before and during the Olympics, Bill Sweeney will talk about the secrets of their success – from the branding and sponsorship deals, through four years of careful preparation, to the leadership of an 800-person team in Rio during the Olympics. With a background in sports management, Bill will talk about how to get the best out of people on and off the field of play.

Bill Sweeney joined the British Olympic Association as Chief Executive Officer in November 2013. A highly accomplished sports business executive with more than 25 years’ experience developing some of the most recognised and successful brands in sport, Bill is responsible for directing the day-to-day activities of the BOA, including overseeing preparations for all summer and winter Olympic Games and the many other international, multi-sport events in which Team GB competes. A versatile athlete, Bill represented and captained his English Universities UAU football side and played rugby for Aberdeenshire and Roslyn Park. He is also an accomplished golfer and skier.
