Tech Against Abuse Workshop
What is 'Tech Against Abuse' Workshop?
Are you a woman with experiences of domestic abuse who is over 18 years old and lives in London or nearby? Chayn, Snook and SafeLives are hosting a workshop to explore how technology could be harmful and/or helpful to women experiencing abuse. This will help charities and funders create new and better projects and means of support. We’ll also be creating a list of ideas for new solutions that could be created. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about technology or development. We’re just looking for women who use the internet, social media, and phones, and want to help brainstorm!
This Workshop is part of a 'Tech Vs. Abuse" Project by Chayn, Snook and SafeLives, funded by Comic Relief. You can find more about our research here. We don’t want our project to stop at researching how technology can be useful and harmful. We want to create solutions to problems we came across in our research (which we’ll share with you)!
What will happen?
We’ll have an informal chat about how we can design technology in a positive way that helps protect women against abusive relationships e.g. snooping and privacy settings. We will work together in small groups to come up with creative ideas that will be useful for you!
Who would we like to be there?
In short - anyone who identifies as a woman, is above 18 years old, who currently lives in the U.K and is experiencing or has experienced domestic abuse. It’s very important to us that we hear from women with a variety of backgrounds and in different stages of their journey out of abuse, whether you are still in an abusive relationship (and feel safe enough to come and chat to us), if you have left or just thinking of leaving. Whatever you share with us in the workshop will be kept completely anonymous and we will never share your details with anybody.
How can you join us?
We will be in touch after you sign up to this event! You can also get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
When & where?
The workshop will take place on 29th September from 12 pm to 4.00 pm at Newspeak House.
Just bring your fabulous enthusiasm! We’ll take care of your travel expenses of up to £15 and we’ll provide lunch, hot drinks & nibbles!
