Sharing experience and perspectives, amongst technology managers, about common engineering issues
Threads is a new series of monthly roundtable discussions, exploring practical and empirical guidance on a range of topical issues at the intersection of; technology, process and practice; business and law; and people, staffing and skills.
As an Engineering Team Manager, Head of Department, or Director of a growing or early stage business which builds technology or creates software, Threads is somewhere you can pool perspectives and gauge your thinking amongst an impartial peer group, benefiting from the collective learning of others.
The nominated topic for each months' discussion will be published in advance, via the Upcoming MeetUps page; this gives you time to think about how the topic manifests within your own operation or industry domain, and to prepare your thoughts on the issues you'd like to pool and explore in discussion.
The hosts will facilitate an open, informal and constructive debate, seeking experiences and views from the room, and aiming at improvement for all with some practical and useful take-aways. You will also be encouraged to contribute ideas for future topics; this may be an entirely fresh topic, or a natural extension of the current topic.
In May, we explore considerations around motivating and retaining your biggest asset, your people.
For example; we often hear that good people don't leave firms, they leave bad managers. This is as true of a scale-up tech firm as any other. We know some may seek their fortune elsewhere, but what can be done to keep them engaged, growing and motivated to stay.
How to get involved:
Alternatively, if you can't attend, you can always explore a topic futher via the Discussions page, where you'll find a fuller list of take-away thoughts and the facility to talk with the organisers or with other active group members.
We welcome all input as we shape and grow Threads, please email; firstname.lastname@example.org.
And, please do help spread the word about this unique resource.
