About this Event

How do you find and grow world-class junior software developers?

The big problem with Computer Science programs: 3 years is an eternity in tech. While a CS degree may help a software professional find a very specific job (such as optimising trading algorithms, or making a database engine more efficient), the majority of software engineering jobs don’t fall into this category.

So what do you do if CS grads don't make the cut? If you're an HR manager or tech team lead, where can you hire from efficiently and effectively, and what should you specifically look out for when growing your tech team?

Join us for an insightful series of presentations that discuss development practices essential for success.

We'll explore:

- What really makes a world-class junior developer - the routes they come from, and the support they need (it might not be what you think);

- Whether bootcamp grads have an edge over CS grads, or vice versa;

- How to mitigate the risks of growing your team: what team leads can do to support junior developers, regardless of the route they've come from.

If you have questions on what makes a great junior developer, you're looking to grow your tech team or want advice from the newest voices in tech, we'd love to see you there.

Sophie Gill (Software development coach - Makers)

With over 7 years experience in the world of tech, first as a Business Analyst before moving into project management, Sophie retrained as a full stack web developer and then became a development coach. As a Makers coach, she has spent hundreds of hours helping new developers gain the skills they need to secure their first role. She'll share lessons learned from growing and mentoring junior developers in Makers' environment of 'self-led learning' and the traits she's noticed in outstanding talent.
