Tech Talks with Neil Stephenson is the first in a series of events focusing on the people behind some of the most successful businesses in the area.
Neil studied at local school Harton, and still lives with his family in South Tyneside so is passionate about supporting entrepreneurship and inspiring the next generation of tech-leaders.
From the days he spent as a student at Harton Comprehensive School in South Shields, Neil has grown into a seriously successful businessman. Being appointed as CEO of IT firm Onyx Group in 2007 – at the age of just 35! – he recently negotiated the sale of the company in a deal reported to be worth around £65 million.
Neil studied Computers & Economics local to home at the University of Sunderland before starting his career at Vaux in sales & marketing. Always driven and ambitious he moved to Onyx in the mid-90’s as Sales & Marketing Director.
Marriage and becoming a Dad to two lads of his own only fuelled his ambition and Neil took the reins as CEO in 2007. Soon after that the regional accolades and awards began flooding in, recognising the true entrepreneur and great businessman. Neil turned the company around from a £1million business to a multi-million market leader generating £30million turnover. A strategy of raising investment and step change acquisition grew the business, until the right time to sell came earlier this year.
Now enjoying some family time, looking after other investments and considering the next role is how Neil spends his time… for now…
Join Neil at One Trinity Green as he shares his story… a chat with the man behind the business, followed by pizza, beer and networking.
