Event description

Description

Exciting technology is transforming the practice of structural engineering by allowing us to imagine and design structures that can be made with digitally controlled machines. This lecture, part of our Technical Lecture Series, will explore how digital fabrication is transforming the way we make and construct the built environment.

Expert speaker, Tim Lucas, will draw on examples of his own work and that of other practitioners to:

  • Look at the tools and techniques of digital fabrication
  • Question if the application of this technology on construction materials, from steel to stone, can reinterpret the idea of craftsmanship
  • Explore how digital fabrication might change building procurement in the future

About the Speaker

Tim Lucas leads the Price & Myers Geometrics team at Myers Consulting Engineers, pioneering structurally innovative systems and digitally crafted manufacturing methods for their projects with internationally renowned architects and artists. Tim became a Partner in 2007, is a lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture, and in 2015, was the recipient of the IABSE Milne Medal.
