Event description

Description

The management of infectious diseases, the optimisation of antimicrobial use, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a major clinical challenge and a pressing risk to global health. Technological advances, particularly within the fields of data sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), decision support, diagnostics and biosensors offer opportunities to optimise antimicrobial use, improve the treatment of infectious diseases and address AMR. On the 9th July 2019, colleagues from across faculties of Imperial College and collaborators will host a summit on “Technical Solutions to Support Infection Management and Address Antimicrobial Resistance”. This event, opened by Baroness Blackwood, will showcase the latest research and advances within these fields with a focus on AI, precision prescribing, sepsis and the relevance and application in global health. Some of these emerging, innovative technologies will also be showcased within an interactive space at the venue. As part of the day, the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Dame Sally Davies (Chief Medical Office for England), will chair an interactive panel discussion on how academia, government, funding bodies and industry partners can work together to address this national and global challenge.

The summit will be held at the Translation and Innovation Hub, on Imperial’s new White City campus, which brings together scientists, engineers, SMEs, spin outs, and clinicians within state-of-the-art, flagship facilities, to support innovative, multidisciplinary translational research.
