Event Details

Once a decade opportunity to hear the international state of the art of Energy in Buildings and Communities from researchers in the field.

We offer you the opportunity to learn about the state of the art in Building Energy Research at a Technical Symposium jointly organised by the Victoria University Centre for Building Performance Research and MBIE.

At this free symposium you will hear from the research leaders of 12 current international building energy research programmes. Each programme typically involves researchers from 5-10 countries. Therefore the research to be presented is based on the collaborative effort of 60-120 different research organisations.

The Symposium is made possible by the meeting in Wellington of the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Energy in Buildings and Communities (EBC) Technical Collaboration Programme. The EBC committee manages the 18 current IEA-EBC collaborative research projects.

The committee meets once every 6 months. With 23 member countries, they meet in New Zealand once every 10 years. The IEA research project leaders have agreed to present lessons learned from their research and answer questions alongside local researchers at this free Technical Symposium.

TARGET AUDIENCE: practitioners: architects and engineers wishing to engage with research leaders in the field of energy performance in buildings.

ORGANISATION: short, 10 minute presentations from the researchers on a range of themes all presenting their work in the format of lessons for the design team:

  • Users in buildings – learning from real buildings
  • Energy innovation at the community level
  • Non-residential building design – comfort and performance
  • Assessing the environmental impact of buildings
  • Indoor environments in buildings
