Synopsis

Through mega transfer girders, inclined columns with high strength steel cable ties, triple-storey A-frames, partial demolition of the existing basement, and top-down construction, the challenges faced at 22 Bishopsgate push the limits of traditional structural engineering whilst providing a sustainable and environmentally conscious building that re-uses 100% of the existing foundations. This talk will explain the engineering challenges of designing and building what is set to become the tallest building in the City of London.

Speaker: Mr Diego Padilla Philipps BSc (Hons) CEng MIStructE | Associate Structural Engineer WSP

Diego is an Associate Structural Engineer at WSP. In 2009 he moved to London to study a master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management at UCL.
