Warren is an orthopaedic bioengineer with thirty five years’ experience in clinical orthopaedics, research and industry. A first degree in Materials Engineering from Monash led to four years in industry in Melbourne, then I packed it in and travelled overland to the UK where I was given the opportunity to start in Bioengineering with an MPhil at Leeds University. The ideal job as Bioengineer at the Royal Perth Hospital for three years set me on the path, and there followed work at the Oxford Orthopaedic Engineering Centre, Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics, and King’s College Hospital. I then worked for fifteen years as an independent consulting Bioengineer in the orthopaedic field, working primarily with a research group in Gothenburg and a subsidiary of AstraZeneca and then more broadly in the Medical Devices field.
Dr Warren Macdonald has particular interests in implant and instrumentation design, fracture fixation devices and strategies and how these influence bone response. He is also really interested in making a difference to how orthopaedics is understood and practised through innovation in implants, procedures and instrumentation, and in delivering practical solutions to clinical problems or answering clinical questions.
