The National Crime Agency (NCA) leads the UK’s fight to cut serious and organised crime, drawing on unique capabilities to target those offenders at the highest-end of high-harm. As the threat facing the UK from serious and organised crime evolves, we must consider how well our intelligence and investigation techniques are keeping pace with offenders?

In May 2021 the NCA published its most comprehensive ever assessment of the serious organised crime threat to the UK. This National Strategic Assessment (NSA) highlights how developing technology, interacting with societal changes including Covid-19, is increasingly critical to the operation of organised crime groups.

This free seminar will outline the role technology increasingly plays in enabling serious organised criminals and their groups, exploring how it can extend the reach of offenders and increase the risk to those most vulnerable to criminality. The speakers will also touch upon the range of partners with which the NCA works, noting that many of the threats we address require more than a law enforcement or criminal justice response’

Building on the findings of the NSA, our speakers will examine the implications of this ever-changing issue for law enforcement’s intelligence gathering, analysis, and investigative techniques, before considering whether our current approach to reducing offending has kept pace with the changing threat.
