Technology will perform a critical role in the delivery of a highly successful Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Join Adrian and Laurence discuss Birmingham 2022, how Technology is used at a multi-sport event and what opportunities will be available for those interested in getting involved.


Adrian Corcoran

Adrian is the CIO for Birmingham 2022, which encompasses the technology services and broadcast operations needed to support the planning and delivery of the Commonwealth Games across all venues and to distribute the results, digital and TV feeds to a global audience.

Adrian worked for the BBC for 22 years, eventually becoming Managing Director of BBC Technology Ltd where he led the company through its sale to Siemens Business Services. After a period running the Siemens Professional Services business, he joined London 2012 as Head of Venue Technology, responsible for the planning and deployment of all of the technology infrastructure and services across over 90 competition and non-competition venues. He then continued to work in the major sports events sector, including the Baku 2015 European Games, the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the Islamic Solidarity Games 2017, the Los Angeles 2024/28 Olympic bid team and the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow before returning to his Birmingham roots to help deliver the Commonwealth Games next year.

Laurence Smith

Laurence is the Head of Venue Technology for Birmingham 2022. He is responsible for planning, delivering and supporting the technology equipment and services required at all competition and non-competition venues.

Laurence started his career at London 2012 as an Aston University placement year intern. Since then, he has delivered major sports events around the world and is now back in Birmingham leading the Venue Technology team to deliver the Commonwealth Games.

Our events are for adults aged 16 years and over.
