Event description

Description

Brian McDonough, leader of Solent's new sociology degree, writes around subjects such as bodily presence at work, precarious work, and the increased use of automation in society.

Drawing upon work for his book 'Flying Aeroplanes and Other Sociological Tales', this seminar examines the use of the hands in a qualitative study with a commercial aeroplane pilot. By being there and engaging with things, we can attempt to acquire an optimal grasp of our research participants' worlds, thus providing insightful ways of knowing and making sense of qualitative data.
