The TEDxEdinburghNapierUniversity Main Conference is a full day event with catered food and beverage. We have exciting speakers, workshops and showcases lined up!
Our speakers will be talking about the value that business and knowledge and research can bring to our community, showing us how it's not just about money.
Prabhuraj Balakrishnan will be sharing his groundbreaking research in how to produce cheap, clean energy. He is a researcher at Manchester University, who was awarded the Young Chemical Engineer of the Year 2017 by the global Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Devie Mohan is a financial technology researcher, an influential writer, speaker and commentator, who has been listed as a top 10 global fintech influencer by several groups. She will be talking about the exciting possibilities that a move to a cashless economy might bring. She will talk about her own observations, the data, how we can fight corruption and track our spending, using new technologies.
Are you struggling to get to the gym? Kathleen Anderson, founder of Sweaty Hugs, will be talking about social fitness - how to adopt a life long strategy for staying fit, which is fun!
Bruce Walker, co-founded FutureX, a family of organisations working collectively to build a better world through business. He will tell us about how we can make business sustainable and valuable to communities and consumers as well as shareholders.
Ewan Aitken runs a charity called Cyrenians which helps vulnerable people by giving them jobs. He believes that the public and private sector can support charities and will be convincing us in his talk, that we can make a difference through what we buy, and support those in need through our consumer choices.
During the community meet-ups we saw some magic tricks. At the main conference, Elliot Bibby, who started doing magic whilst studying at Napier, will show us some of his best effects. He will entertain us with his astounding tricks while telling a compelling story of how magic can help people.
Zakia Moulaoui, founder of Invisible Edinburgh, a charity that trains homeless people to be tour guides of our beautiful city. She will be talking about how we can do good better - if you’ve ever wondered if putting a pound into a box for the RSPCA or donating a blanket to refugees is the better way to go - she will make sure you know exactly how to help those in need.
Feel you need motivation? Manish Khatri, our newly elected ENSA president, will be talking about his experience raising money for the Nepal earthquake, and how you too, can embark on an incredible journey by starting your own project.
Professor Bill Buchanan, head of cyber security at Napier University, will give a talk about how the Internet of Things could compromise our privacy with exciting demonstrations of hacking a WiFi camera, kettle, and creepy childrens toys.
