How can you make sure your teen stays safe and happy online?

For teenagers the internet is a fantastic, creative and fun resource, allowing them to keep in contact with their friends, develop their own identities, find out about their interests and connect with others who share those same interests. Most young people don’t run into any trouble, but how much do they think about their online behaviour? Do they consider how over-sharing online could affect themselves, their reputation, their friends and family away from the screen in the offline world?

If your teen uses popular sites and services such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or Twitter, they might be at risk of sharing too much personal information.

Join us for a FREE presentation that covers the basics of the laws you need to be aware of, to keep your teenager safe.

Working in conjunction with Eagle Radio, their representative Jack Johnson will give you an overview of the key legal and ethical issues surrounding the misuse of online and social media by young people. You will learn about:

  • Sexting (Indecent/explicit images of children and young people) and the law
  • Cyber-bulling/Trolling (offensive, malicious, threatening or abusive content as well as 'Hate-Speech')
  • Contempt of Court
  • Privacy laws
  • Defamation
  • Copyright and Intellectual Property
  • How to protect young people's reputations (digital footprint, employment issues, etc.)

Current students at Farnham Sixth Form College will be receiving this presentation during assemblies on Thursday 30 March (year 2 students) and Monday 15 May (year 1 students).

Although this presentation is targeted towards parents, you are more than welcome to bring along your son or daughter to attend.

Light refreshments will be available on the night.
