  • Understand the use and application of medication management with telephone triage.

  • Review the general principles in managing a triage call.

  • View standard protocols and develop a protocol relevant to your working area.

  • Work through consultation scenarios covering the main body systems, including both minor and major ailments.

  • Discuss support systems required for telephone triage in individual areas.

Course Content

  • Telephone triage - why we need it, where it should be undertaken and who should do it?

  • Taking a history, communication techniques and developing clinical decisio-making skills.

  • Common presentations and Case Scenarios

  • Awareness of red flags and patient management and the use of clincial decision-making skills.

  • Legal implications, including documentation and use of protocols.

  • Standard triage protocols and developing a protocol for your own working environment.

  • Review of newly developed group protocols

  • Use of role play and case studies.

  • Recognition of resources available.

  • How to audit and monitor quaity of triage.

  • Course evaluation and review of learning.
