About this event
Welcome to our Storytelling Saturday Workshop on the 13th September in the Octagon Room at Meeting Point House!
Storytelling Saturday is an exciting four-hour introduction to drama and storytelling skills co-led by Hannah de Quincey, a drama teacher/ theatre director and Amy Douglas, a professional storyteller.
The day is for children and young people aged 8 to 14 from across Telford to be able to come together and explore co-creating stories in groups first-hand – supported by proven drama and storytelling games and techniques.
Your child can attend as a one-off just for the day or to get them raring to go for our following six Thursday evening workshops. Either will work well – we would just love for them to access all the juicy creative goodness we have to offer in some shape or form!
Our Storytelling Saturday in September kickstarts our Autumn series of co-creative drama workshops. We can offer these sessions at subsidised prices because of a National Lottery projects grant award from Arts Council England – hooray! Grab your child’s spot now before they all go.
There are a maximum of 15 places available.
Please bring packed lunch. Additional snacks will be provided.
EARLY BIRD PRICE: ONLY £20 PER CHILD!
**Book via this EB page before 5pm on Monday 8th September! ** (the early bird price deadline has been extended to ensure as many people as possible benefit!!)
Artist bios:
Award-winning author and storyteller, Amy Douglas has been integral within the modern British storytelling landscape as performer, promoter and advocate for the past three decades. Her three folk tale collections have all received Storytelling World Awards. She has worked extensively with young people over her 30 year career: as a mentor, workshop leader, performer and project lead. Amy is a pioneer for taking storytelling into new arenas and formats, including recent projects in VR and blended performance.
Hannah de Quincey is an experienced secondary school drama teacher and theatre director. She has a PGCE in Secondary Drama teaching and an MFA in Theatre Directing. Her goal is to empower children and nurture community through Moonstruck Astronaut CIC’s work. She is First Aid trained and has an enhanced DBS check.
Funding – limited number of half-price places available:
We believe income should not be a barrier to access and we have done our best to keep costs to parents as economical as possible. As such, we have worked hard to reduce the cost of attending by securing national and local grant funding to help towards covering the costs of this co-creative youth arts project.
However, there are most likely still parents who will struggle to find the money to pay for the workshops.
As such, we have reserved funds to cover a limited number of 50% off places.
Please email us if you need this financial help for your child to attend.
For those parents who would like to help, please consider subsidising the placement of a child who otherwise may not be able to attend. Please simply transfer any sum of money into the MA CIC account with the heading ‘OTHER CHILD’.
Moonstruck Astronaut is a not-for-profit social enterprise hugely invested in serving the local community. It's valuable work fostering community cohesion through theatre projects depends on donations, funding and sponsorship.
