Telling MENA+ stories - Welcome to MENA Arts UK
Event Information
About this Event
The global spotlight has fallen on the MENA+ region and there is a hunger from audiences everywhere for stories from and about the area, its peoples and cultures.
In this panel discussion, we have invited three MENA+ creators and storytellers – working across film, theatre, writing and directing – to talk about their experiences in telling MENA+ stories on the global stage. What stories are currently being told about us? Who is telling them? What pictures do they paint of the people and places of the MENA+ region?
Spanning various creative disciplines, the guests will discuss the pitfalls we face in telling our stories to Western audiences, the expectations that are placed on us as well as the many opportunities our talents give us in meeting these.
This 90-minute event will also feature a Q&A with the panel to open the discussion to our wider membership.
Guests:
Sepy Baghaei (Theatre director)
Saeed Taji Farouky (Filmmaker)
Hannah Khalil (Writer)
Moderated by Kerry Kyriacos Michael MBE
