About this event

Wales’ Temple of Peace and Health was built as the Welsh nation’s memorial to the fallen of World War 1, and a headquarters for Welsh efforts to advance peace, health and international relations for future generations. The founders envisioned a building a 'peace building for peacebuilding', built with and for the people of Wales, architecturally steeped in classical symbolism yet with award-winning, art deco modernist style... an iconic space and place that would inspire movements of Welsh men and women to rid the world of the twin scourges of disease and war into successive generations.

Since its opening in 1938, the Temple has been at the heart of Welsh efforts to build a better world: from the National Health Service to the United Nations, bodies have been born here, global campaigns catalysed, and today, many 'hidden histories' from Wales’ rich ‘Peace Heritage’ are continually being unearted by WCIA's passionate volunteers and communities. These guided tours with WCIA's heritage team reflect this constantly evolving knowledge - and often try to integrate particular interests and experiences of those in the tour group itself, it's a friendly conversation rather than a lecture tour!

Most who come on a Temple Tour comment how blown away they are to know just how much Wales has quietly contributed on the international stage - "I can't believe we didn't know or grow up with this.. in an hour it's transformed my view of the country I've lived in my whole life!'

Temple Tours from May onwards also offer the opportunity afterward to join in our ' archiveathon afternoons', research and volunteering drop-in sessions in the Temple Archives (please register seperately via Eventbrite or email heddwch@wcia.org.uk for any speciifc queries).

Some Temple Tours complement wider 'special events' at the Temple - for further information on some of these, click on the links below:
