About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Explore the art of text in lino printing with artist-printmaker Mark Andrew Webber. In this hands-on workshop, you'll design and carve your own lino block using a short text of your choice—a quote, name, or phrase that fits within the time available.

Mark will guide you through different techniques for transferring lettering onto lino before you carve and print your design. He will also introduce ideas from his own practice, such a colour gradients.

Join us for this fun and creative session exploring the expressive potential of text in printmaking.

This workshop is designed for beginners to intermediate printmakers who may not have worked extensively with lino cutting and text. No prior experience is necessary, but a steady hand will help with carving.

There will be a 30 minute lunch break within the session - feel free to bring packed lunch to the studios. All materials are included.

Ink can take at least 24 hours to dry, so please bring something to transport your work home safely. Wear old clothes or bring an apron to protect yourself from ink stains.

The workshop is taught by Artist-printmaker Mark Andrew Webber who specialises in painstakingly-researched typographic and geometric projects, including his ‘Where in the World’ series of enormous city maps and ‘FORM’, a six-part study of line and form. In 2007, Webber was awarded a Silver Cube award from the Art Directors Club of New York. His first solo exhibition, ‘Wonderlust’, was on display at the Londonewcastle Project Space in London in 2014. He collaborated with poet Jacqueline Saphra on her pamphlet If I Lay on my Back I Saw Nothing but Naked Women (Emma Press, 2014), illustrating her poems with linocuts inspired by his lifedrawing sketches. He is based in Reading.

This workshop is for adults. Please note that this workshop needs a minimum number of bookings to go ahead.
