About this event

This seminar brings together two distinct but deeply relevant areas of research by our Global Majority doctoral researchers. They will offer insights to how individuals and institutions cope with and respond to challenges in very different domains, including information ecosystems and professional workplaces. They will examine the underlying factors of trust, communication, and well-being.

Saheed Ibrahim (Doctoral Researcher – Birmingham City University)

'Save me from my Mother-In-Law': Understanding dis/misinformation dimensions in the Global South

This paper takes the form of a conceptual review of prior research to highlight the dimensions of disinformation in the Global South, expatiating on why experiences from the Global North are insufficient to understand the narratives disinformation takes in highly polarised contexts. It explores how the socio-political, economic, and cultural factors of countries in the Global South fuel the spread of disinformation. The paper contributes to disinformation studies, especially during electoral cycles, showing how disinformation not only circulates but is also interpreted and acted upon differently across electoral contexts.

Jasvinder Singh Shubh (Doctoral Researcher Birmingham City University)

Workplace Well-being and Retention of NHS Resident Doctors

This paper examines the workplace experiences of NHS resident doctors and their impact on personal and professional life, doctor retention, and the broader health service. This research is currently in the literature review phase and will be followed by a qualitative study, using interviews with NHS resident doctors. The aim is to inform and influence UK government policy on the NHS workforce and to improve practices at the frontline of patient care.

This event is for Birmingham City University and University of Wolverhampton Postgraduate Researchers. Please use your university email address when registering - the Teams link will be sent in advance of the seminar.
