About this event

Fifty years of Uniform Penny Postage and the introduction of the Penny Black were celebrated with major events, including a grand Exhibition and Conversazione, organised by the Corporation of the City of London at Guildhall in May 1890. The event was held over three days and was initiated by Sir James Whitehead, the former Lord Mayor, to benefit the Rowland Hill Benevolent Fund and was attended by the Prince of Wales. This talk by historian John Davies shows a range of items of significant relevance to postal history, as well as some of the related ephemera.

In-person: For access to the event, please use the Aldermanbury entrance to Guildhall Library/The London Centre.

Online via YouTube: Event link to be sent to attendees 24 hours prior to the talk.
