The 2019 Edinburgh Infectious Diseases Winter Lecture
Event Information
About this Event
This year we are delighted to have Prof Liz Sockett FRS from the University of Nottingham giving our annual public Winter Lecture.
Can predatory bacteria become human allies against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic infections?
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception to which everyone is very welcome.
About the speaker
Liz's research group studies the predatory delta-Proteobacterium Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus. Bdellovibrio are tiny bacteria that naturally invade and eat the pathogenic bacteria that cause skin ulcer, burn and pressure sore infections in people, whilst not being infectious.
The long-term goals of her work are to establish Bdellovibrio as a treatment for Gram-negative bacterial infections in humans, and in animals and plants.
Liz is an excellent speaker and her presentation will be accessible to experts and the general public alike.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to what will be a most engaging and enjoyable evening.
