About this Event
London Historians Monthly Lecture
by Dr Naomi Paxton
Theatre historian and cabaret performer Naomi Paxton brings the story of the Actresses’ Franchise League to life in this talk, which will focus on the variety and breadth of the organisation in London. Founded in 1908 by a group of theatre professionals to support Votes for Women, the Actresses’ Franchise League created exciting political theatre and public events as well as working behind the scenes with all the other suffrage societies to share the messages of the movement in unexpected ways. Naomi will draw from both suffrage and theatre histories to tell the story of these suffragist actresses and actors and their political activism and their work after the equal franchise was won.
