The pioneering African Concert Series, spearheaded by Nigerian-Romanian pianist Rebeca Omordia, now supported by Arts Council England’s National Lottery Grants, has joined Wigmore Hall’s Family of Partners with a day of concerts on February 5, 2022 at the famous concert venue.
On 3 February 2022, The African Concert Series will host a panelled discussion, ahead of the special day at Wigmore Hall on February 5, featuring distinguished host Kenneth Tharp CBE and African Art Music Pioneers - Rebeca Omordia, Glen Inanga, Leon Bosch and a special appearance by composer Fred Onovwerosuoke.
Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp CBE is a key figure in the UK arts and culture scene with close to 40 years professional experience in the sector. He began his career as a dancer; as one of the leading dance artists of his generation, he performed for 13 years with the internationally-acclaimed London Contemporary Dance Theatre and then with other leading companies during a 25-year career as a performer, choreographer, teacher and director. He is currently working as a freelance Arts & Culture Consultant and Interim Chief Executive of Eclipse Theatre. From 2007 to 2016, he was Chief Executive of The Place, the UK’s leading centre for contemporary dance development. From May 2018 to Sept 2020, he was Director of The Africa Centre, in its new home in Southwark.
