A special fundraiser event for the Anne Frank Trust (https://www.annefrank.org.uk/) with special guest James Gilchrist… and possibly more!
Since 2007, I have been engaged in a long-term composition and research project focusing on work inspired by the remarkable yet tragically little-known poet, Gertrud Kolmar, who perished in Auschwitz in 1943. The collective name for this endeavour is now known as The Welten Project. Works from the project have been performed and recorded by some leading singers and players here in the UK and abroad.
This is one of a series of immersive lecture/recitals where I play and broadly contextualise a curated playlist of excerpts from Welten works written so far - drawing particular attention to the opportunities for contemporary inspiration that I believe Kolmar's work offers.
Following an introductory talk, you will hear recorded performances from:
James Gilchrist, Melanie Pappenheim, Miranda Ostler, Avigal Tlalim, Louisa Clein, Sophie Harris, Lucy Railton, Raj Bhaumik, Philharmonia Orchestra cellos (sextet), The Rupa Ensemble, Schoolhouse 6 Ensemble.
