About this event

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has a collection of Museum in a Box loan kits which are available for loan to schools in Edinburgh and surrounding areas.

The Apothecary loan kit allows students to investigate the ingredients of 1600s -1800s medicines in an engaging and exciting way. Through activities students will learn where ingredients are sourced, how medicines from 1600s to1800s were made, and which ingredients physicians used to treat which illnesses.

The Apothecary contains four different activity packs, a folder of archive materials and 12 different objects. It also contains 12 smelling objects for students to investigate and match to their source.

All Museum in a Box loan kits from The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh are designed to be used with students from p5 to S2.

After booking through Eventbrite you will be contacted via email to complete and sign our loan contract, to choose a pick-up date and time, and to choose a drop-off date and time.

All loan kits must be pick-up up from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, 11 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1JQ.

Where do I pick-up the loan kit from?

You can find the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh at 11 Queen Street, Edinburgh EH2 1JQ. After entering the College, take the glass door to your left to enter the reception area. To pick-up your loan kit, please speak to the College reception staff.

Do you have parking?

The College does not have dedicated parking, but there is paid street parking on Queen Street. Blue Badge holders can park on Queen Street and surrounding streets for free and without a time limit.

How can I reach you by bus?

The College is within 200 metres of Thistle Street (Stop GQ, Stop GH), Hill Street (Stop GU), or Queen Street Gardens West.

How can I reach you by train?

The College is a 9 min walk from Edinburgh Waverley. Exit Waverley train station via the Princes St exit, walk west on Princes St to the traffic lights, cross the road and head north on South St Andrew St. Walk past St Andrew Square until you reach Queen St. Walk west on Queen St until number 11.
