The Applications of Operational Research in 3rd Sector Organisations

Third Sector Organisations are constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency, maximise return on funding and demonstrate the effectiveness of their interventions. However, achieving these objectives whilst delivering complex services in a highly complex social environment can be very difficult indeed.
As a result Third Sector Organisations are making real gains by adopting Operational Research as a way to help them to make sense of this complex world.
At this event, our speakers will share their experiences of using Operational Research to make sense of real and complex situations. Our talks cover a wide variety of topics which are summarised below:
Mark Montanana – Senior Analyst National Australia Group.
Bloodwise conduct research into Leukaemia and Lymphoma. Mark will be describing how he helped Bloodwise to identify coherent supporter groups and recommended a range of supporter engagement strategies for each group.
Dr. Giles Hindle PHd - Senior Lecturer at Hull University Business School
Giles will be talking about how a team including Professor Richard Vidgen (University of New South Wales) and Andy Hamflett (AAM Associates, London) applied soft systems methodology, business analytics and data science to innovative the business model of the Trussell Trust in the UK.
Sally Eaves - Doctoral Research Scholar (PhD) at Aston Business School
Sally will be talking about how she used OR techniques to help a cancer charity to better understand their audience and to increase their awareness of the support available.
Simon Glenister – Managing Director Noise Solution
Noise Solution is a social enterprise using the medium of music to help people in challenging circumstances. Simon will be describing a pro bono project to build a dashboard demonstrating the benefit of Noise Solution interventions.
