Description

TALK

The history of the Arab Bureau is a strange mix of facts and romance, myths and legend.

In 1915, after the outbreak of the First World War, it became clear that the existing British intelligence networks were not suited to the complexity of Middle Eastern politics; a change was quickly needed.

Speaker Juliette Desplat will discuss the creation of the Arab Bureau, the vast amount of territory that it covered, and the agents – including numerous academics and archaeologists – who delivered detailed and scholarly information at a time when the world was at war.
