Event description

Description

One of the most gifted musicians of her generation, Sharon, from Co. Clare, played accordion and fiddle from an early age along with other members of her family. Such was her early talent that Mike Scott from The Waterboys asked Sharon to join their international tour in 1989.

It was around this time also that she set about recording her first album that was studded with top musicians Donal Lunny, Mike Scott and Steve Wickham of The Waterboys, Adam Clayton of U2 and Liam O Maonlai. Regarded as a landmark album in traditional music, Sharon Shannon was a chart success on its release. In 1992 she joined up with Eleanor McEvoy, Dolores Keane, Maura O'Connell and Mary & Frances Black to record the hugely successful album A Woman's Heart, which became at the time the biggest selling Irish album ever.

In 2000 she recorded the World No.1 song ‘Galway Girl’ with Steve Earle that was to feature on the international film P.S I Love You.
In March 2009 she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious Meteor Music Achievements ceremony in Dublin.

2017 saw Sharon release her 10th studio album ‘Sacred Earth’ that captures three decades of international touring and world influences. Recorded at the legendary Real World studios and produced by Justin Adams (Robert Plant’s guitarist) the album was showcased at special preview performance at the legendary Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow.
