AI: Architects and Artists - Assistant or Assassin ?

What is AI, Artificial Intelligence, and why is it causing such excitement and concern?

Broadly the industrial revolution created machines to undertake manual tasks, in manufacturing and transport, this revolution of Artificial Intelligence is set to undertake tasks currently needing human intelligence.

Among global risks are disinformation, copyright infringements and a potential that AI machines could seriously damage humanity.

Our debate brings the discussion to AI's potential impact on architecture and the creative arts, for better or worse?

The motion to be debated and voted: For artists and architects is Artificial Intelligence an assistant or an assassin?

AI is an assistant:

Carlos Gomez Gonzalez, Senior architectural artist, Foster + Partners

AI is an Assassin:

Neil Leach, architect and theorist working in the realm of architecture in artificial intelligence in the UK, US and China

Paul Seheult, CEO of PICSEL a collecting society for photographers and the visual arts. Involved in protecting the rights of creatives including with government and multinational technology companies.

Please note: The Athenaeum operates a dress code which members and guests must follow - Gentlemen; collar, jacket and tie / Ladies; must wear the equivalent appropriate for a formal reception or lunch.
