Event description

Description

Important since the Middel Ages, the seat of government and to this day the home city of the Dutch royal family, The Hague has some extra ordinary art collections (with quality over size), and some historically important buildings.

This lectures series will introduce the history of the Low Countries and the role of The Hague, the house of Orange, the court, and its diplomats. We will look into the development of other cities during the Golden Age, and how The Hague fits in during this period.
But the series will also introduce possible lesser known things, like the 'School of The Hague' which was a group of painters active during the second half of the 19th century in a realist style who greatly influenced Van Gogh.
Or 'De Stijl' movements and one of their most well known members: Mondrian. The Gemeente Museum in The Hague houses the largest collection of artworks by Mondrian in the world, and it showcases the development of this artist in incredible clarity.
