The Art of Crafting Rooms with a Story: A Kit Kemp and Melissa White collab...
Wed 3 May 2017, 18:00 – 21:00 BST
Kit Kemp, Co-Owner and Design Director of Firmdale Hotels and Melissa White, designer and painter of decorative interiors, exhibit a new collaborative interior design scheme in the Loft Suite at Charlotte Street Hotel. Showcasing the very best of British craft, the duo have created a space that plays with scale, colour and pattern. White has designed a bespoke wallpaper inspired by the murals of Hardwick Hall, featuring a whimsical canopy filling the suite’s double height space. Meanwhile, Kemp has designed, curated and styled the interior scheme which celebrates her love of folk art and British craftsmanship.
A designer and painter of decorative interiors, Melissa White works largely to commission, creating bespoke pieces for private homes and working directly with clients or via interior designers, architects and art consultants. Her work also crosses over into the heritage, retail and hospitality sectors. She draws on a diverse and evolving set of influences for her designs, and is perhaps best known for reproducing beautiful Elizabethan wall paintings and painted cloths.
Interior Designer Kit Kemp MBE has been creating dynamic and unique interiors for almost three decades. Her work has been recognised with prestigious awards such as the Andrew Martin International Designer of the Year Award (2008), British House & Garden magazine’s Hotel Designer of the Year (2008), Condé Nast Traveller’s Best Hotel in the World for Design (2015), the New London Architecture Award (2015) and the Westminster Society Award for Contribution to Urban Vitality (2015).
