Event description

Description

'Feeling disconnected from what is sacred to us is one of the greatest causes of suffering of all. Feeling, honouring and nurturing that connection gives us an inner strength that makes most of the hardships that we do encounter manageable'

- Burgs, The Survival Guide to Staying Conscious

A rare and special opportunity to experience the life-changing, perspective shifting and heart opening teachings of Burgs in London. Dial into your own powerful healing intelligence and give your whole system a total reboot. This weekend is for under 40s.

Saturday: Just Let Go

Whether you just want to come and try something new that can help show you how to find some peace and happiness in your life, or whether you have already sat one of the 7 day meditation retreats with Burgs and wish to ‘plug’ back in, this day-long workshop will serve as a wonderful opportunity to relieve stress, regain clarity and have some time out from your busy schedule.

The practices will be both fun and dynamic, and yet the teachings and practices introduced will be both deeply rewarding and healing. They will usually include a mixture of sitting meditation and chi kung, with the combination varying depending on the group. You will work to settle and still your mind and body, by clearing out any accumulated mental, emotional and physical energy that might be creating dysfunction and disharmony in our lives.

Sunday: Loving Kindness & The Give Back Generation

Our ability to experience and express love is a reflection of how open we are to life, both its extraordinary wonder and its many challenges. In this introductory workshop Burgs will explore with us the importance of loving kindness, appreciation and gratitude and genuine compassion, in the process of realising and living to our true potential.

Through the combination of careful instruction, deep reflection and the gradual maturing of our own insight we learn how these states emerge and come to maturity naturally within us when we are fully open to life as it is, and that their absence or our difficulty in experiencing them is only the result of the negative attitudes and conditioning that block us.

We will explore the relationship between our lower mind and and higher mind (or true nature); the innate state of pure awareness and the boundless love that lies in the deepest part of our heart.

We will also be exploring Burgs' notion of 'The Give Back Generation' - a generation who seek to contribute to the world more than we take from it.

About Guy Burgs:

'There can be no greater calling than to live this precious human existence well and seek ways to become the source of true happiness, both for ourselves and others'
- Burgs

After many years studying and practicing meditation and chi kung in Asia under the guidance of some the worlds greatest living masters, Burgs moved back to England to teach at the request of one of his teachers.

Burgs ran his first retreat in 1996 in Asia and since then has hosted 100’s retreats, from 5 days to 5 months, having taught thousands of people from all walks of life. His students have ranged from absolute beginners to distinguished monks and nuns, from the homeless of Asia to many successful and influential business people.

He gave up his life and successful career in search of more meaning to his life. His journeys took him to the islands of Indonesia, the foothills of the Himalaya’s in India, and the forests of Myanmar (Burma). After some years of retreat, he left the monastery where he had resided and decided to travel back home to the West to teach. His decision to do so was rooted in a determination to discover for himself whether these practices and the wisdom they pointed to could be upheld and developed within the context of a modern western life. Today he teaches those who wish to learn meditation on retreats across the UK and in France.

The depth of his experiential knowledge of meditation and his ability to communicate this knowledge with clarity to western audiences make him an extremely accessible teacher. He translates profound ancient knowledge and teachings into approachable and digestible language.

With a clear emphasis on the dynamic relationship between the body and the mind, the programme that Burgs teaches starts with the very basics of establishing concentration and mindfulness right through to the process of energetic transformation that opens the door to the very highest states of consciousness. From the foothills to the high plains, Burgs has the experience and the skills to guide each step of the way.
