This event is a rare opportunity to gain insight and inspiration on how to win new business from leading clients, agency heads, search consultants and thought leaders.

The Art of New Business is a collective of like-minded individuals bound by the belief that new business is an art, not a numbers game. Our events are held in London and Manchester.

The aim of our events is to offer support and inspiration to those facing daily pressure to bring in new business (often in silo from the rest of their organisation).

At each of our events we promise to consistently do three things:
1. Invite speakers who can teach us new skills and inspire us to think differently
2. Facilitate a debate on the challenges associated with winning new business
3. Encourage attendees to network and form friendships (rather than see each other as competitors)

Brian Child, ex CEO McCann, Non Exec Director at a number of agencies

"You are only as strong as your people"

One of the regions original "Mad Men", Brian spent 25 years at McCann, starting as an account director, then board director then when company was sold to McCanns became MD and subsequently CEO.  With the efforts of a brilliant team that Brian recruited the agency grew to be biggest outside London t/o £100m with 350 people at beautiful Bonis Hall.Added the role of Group Chairman with offices in Belfast,Bristol,Birmingham,Edinburgh and Windsor. His final job was building the Momentum network in Europe,an experiential group,eventually this grew to having offices in 23 countries in Europe and Africa.

When Brian retired from the mighty McCann after 25 fantastic years, he had no concept of what to do with all that time that occurs between 8 to 8 everyday, and discovered that work was in fact his hobby and due to a final salary pension (eat your hearts out!) he embarked on a new adventure. He decided that he would like to work with entrepeneurs, people who had taken risks to get their companies growing. Adrian Lomas, Managing Director, BlueLeaf

Adrian is a true inspiration, and founder and MD of multi award winning digital agency Blueleaf. Passionate about helping people to achieve what they want to do, Adrian puts his people at the heart of everything he does. Embracing philosophies that may go against the grain with most, like embracing your competitors, cheerleading not selling and admitting when you can't do something, Adrian has built a very successful agency.

Blueleaf's impressive roll call of clients include, RedBull, Laura Ashely, Next and the Coop.  They recently won DEA Digital company of the Year, shortlisted for the Orange - Employer of the Year and are proud to have a team of 24 based in their main offices in Cheshire, of which no one has left in the last 3 years. Adrian is very focussed on supporting the team to achieve, and has some impressive ways of doing so. 

Chris Marsh, Head of all the things nobody else will do, Melbourne Server Hosting
"Be nice to people"

Chris's main focus is on building great relationships, with clients, prospects and suppliers alike, and making sure people feel valued when they help him. It is the little things that make the biggest impact, and Chris has successfully built a strong reputation for Melbourne Server Hosting, leading to its recent sale to iomart group.

Melbourne Server Hosting was founded by entrepreneur Daniel Keighron-Foster while he was studying at university. It specialises in physical server hosting and has 30 employees. The company’s 600 customers include well known businesses such as global consumer goods group PZ Cussons, JJB Sports, satirical news website The Daily Mash as well as many IT companies and design agencies across the North West of England. It was also chosen to host the Jubilee Time Capsule, the digital vault being gifted to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her Diamond Jubilee.

Simon Calderbank, Business Development Director, Studio North
"Creative Entrepreneurs"

Simon has effortlessly engaged across most sectors effectively promoting and marketing products, services, agencies (and himself). Having enjoyed several years running nightclubs and restaurants, he made the move to business development in the late 90's and hasn't looked back since winning brands and friends along the way. After a long stint down south, Simon returned back up north to find his spiritual home at Studio North. Responsible for all their business development, he is also one of the driving forces behind #Twitfaced,which is quickly becoming a legendary event for Mancunian allsorts, adopted or otherwise, to take the tweet to a meet. Offering a very informal networking opportunity for like-minded people who love to play hard at the end of the week.
Like many agencies, Studio North started with nothing. No big agency background, no clients, not even a front door of their own. So they have had  to work hard to get where they are today and they foster this spirit in the talented people they recruit. Being commercial is something good, being entrepreneurial is something far more. This spirit of entrepreneurship means they see every project as an opportunity to develop the value of their clients' business, not just deliver a result or ROI. The Art of New Business

The Art of New Business is a collaborative network of like-minded individuals set up by Karla Morales-Lee and Sarah Bradley. Our focus is on finding new ways of winning business, and giving support and advice to each other. We run events in London and Manchester for new business executives, managers and directors working in the creative sector. For each event we select speakers who can inspire our network to think differently about what they do and how to do it. We want to lead the search for ‘a better way’. That means better people, better processes, better tools and better results. Bringing in new business for your agency can often be a lonely, high pressured job, so this network has been set up to support and inspire those of you facing daily pressure to bring in new business, often in silo from the rest of their organisation.
