About this event

This is a talk and musical performance of the Italian artist Russolo’s Intonarumori. The intonarumori was an experimental musical instrument built over a hundred years ago and Russolo was perhaps the first sound artist incorporating noise in music. I set about reconstructing these machines as practical investigation as to how they might work and sound. In many ways these machines were a musical dead end once the theremin and electronic music was invented. A short concert of these machines imagines an alternative mechanical musical future.

I will look to give a short power point presentation on how I made the machines and demonstrate their sounds. Members of the audience could be invited to play the machines. The evening will end with a short performance by invited musical improvisers.
