THE ART OF WORDS PART 2: POETRY
Join us for another instalment of the Art of Words series, where we pick apart and play with the bindings that hold literature and art together. For this class we’ll be focusing on the subtle (and often tricksy) craft of poetry.
While they engage different senses, poetry and art have always shared the common goal of enticing sensation and provoking feeling, far more so than the story-telling, descriptive purpose of prose.
We’ll be rummaging through the past to bring up some interesting examples of early illustrated poetry across different cultures and looking at the most prevalent and successful forms of illustrated poetry today – all while playing a series of creative games which encourage you to participate on your own terms.
Poetry is very often over-glamourised and stereotyped as a ‘sacred act’, available only to those who have ‘the muse’. Whereas in truth, poetry is a practice like any other, available to anyone who has the willingness and diligence to engage. Through a series of short writing/ drawing exercises we will guide you down the shady and moonlight path of making your own illustrated poems, dripping with pathic fallacy and shimmering with foreshadowing.

THE ART OF WORDS
Well folks, here we go again (again). Once more with feeling. Lockdown the Third brings its own set of challenges and necessities, but as always, LDG has got your back!
For this session, Luisa-Maria McCormack has teamed up with writer Philip Webb Gregg to put together a series of writing and drawing classes to help us find a meaningful outlet in these times of isolation.
The Art of Words is a practical writing and drawing series which will cut across the canons of art history and world literature to bring you a selection of games, creative techniques and storytelling methods that will help you to develop your own writing and drawing practices
Over the next few months we’ll be offering many more in this series celebrating the creative connection between writing and drawing! From myths and fables, to children’s tales and illustrated poetry, we’ll be delving into the space where words and pictures meet.
