The Artist’s Cut

As part of Northern Film & Media and Channel 4’s The Artist’s Cut programme we are running a series of workshops aimed at developing  understanding of film. The workshops will cover story development, film business, production techniques and working with actors. Thanks to the support of our funders there is no charge for attendance but availability of places is limited.

The Inside Track Film industry know how from finance to distribution (Open to narrative filmmakers)

Producer Samm Haillay will lead a round table session  giving an overview of current film industry trends, major players in UK and internationally, finance and networking strategies. Film festivals and markets, which ones to attend and why. He will also talk about his work with artists and the cross over between artist film and traditional film production.

Samm founded independent production company Third with Duane Hopkins in 2001.  He produced Hopkins’ multi-award winning short films and his feature debut Better Things, which premiered to critical acclaim at International Critics Week, Cannes in 2008. Samm also produced Hopkins’ multi-channel film installations series Sunday, which played at BALTIC.  In 2010 he coproduced Turner Prize winning artist Gillian Wearing’s feature debut Self Made.
