Event description

Description

Three speakers, three ideas!

Join us for an evening of intellectual debate, in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. The De Beauvoir Balloon Debates bring together three passionate speakers, each presenting an idea for inclusion in an imaginary hot air balloon. The evening ends with an audience vote on the strongest idea.

Taking part in our Autumn debate on Thursday, October 19th:

Kit Collingwood-Richardson: "The Joy of Nothing".

Kit writes, speaks and cares about many big topics, including radical ways to improve public services. She is a senior civil servant and digital technology expert, and recently the formed the #OneTeamGov movement, to break down the barriers between policy-making and service delivery.

Phil Mullan: "Automation is our friend, not our enemy."

Phil is an economist and the author of "The Imaginary Time Bomb: Why an Ageing Population is not a Social Problem" and "Creative Destruction: How to start an Economic Renaissance". He is a regular contributor to CityAm.

Rachael Box: "Gangs are good."

Rachel is the founder and director of London Village Network, a project that started in Holloway and Islington, and is now expanding across London. It supports teenagers who lack strong networks for education and career, and helps them take control of their lives.
