WORKSHOP WITH PAULA CLAYTON

Paula’s workshops are highly practical and clinically relevant courses that provide participants with a clear understanding of the major principles, and equips them with a number of techniques that can be used immediately in clinical practice.

This one-day course covers the latest research surrounding Low back pain. A very practical course which will take you through thorough ‘evidence based’ assessments, manual therapy inputs and rehabilitation, all of which will increase your clinical reasoning and impact on your patient outcomes

Aims

◆Defining what low back pain is

◆Recognize signs and symptoms that characterize patients with low back pain

◆Understanding the pathophysiology and psychology of low back pain

◆How to assess patients with low back pain

◆Understand the practical application soft tissue techniques and manual therapy technique which impact on pain, dysfunction and performance

◆Understanding when to implement an intervention and when not to – building on clinical reasoning

◆Understand how the body functions as a whole rather than a sum of its parts and how to affect change with this in mind

◆Rehabilitation of low back pain

◆Reduce the risk of recurrence

The course aims to present the scientific evidence and the clinical implications of low back pain. Following thorough assessment to determine which outcome measures you may want to use, manual therapy techniques will be taught, practiced and implemented in order to affect change and improve those outcomes. Targeted rehabilitation and self-treatment techniques will be taught in order to increase a patient’s self-efficacy and to reduce the likelihood of recurrence. There will be opportunities throughout to achieve your own personal learning outcomes.

If coming by car, parking on some yellow lines is free at the weekend

NB: take care in Pages Walk - parking on one side is free at weekends; on the other it is free ONLY on SUNDAYS


Walking:

From London Bridge (15-20 mins):

  • Go down St Thomas Street (off Borough High Street) to Bermondsey Street
  • Turn right.
  • Walk all the way down to the end of Bermondsey Street and you will see the schoo across the road

From Borough Tube station (15 mins):

  • Cross Borough High Street and turn left on to Long Lane
  • Long Lane continues into Great Dover Street
  • Turn right onto Tower Bridge Road
  • Walk to the next set of lights and the Grange is a few yards on the right
  • London School of Osteopathy buiding is across the road opposite Barclays Bank

DLR:

  • go to Tower Gateway and take the 78 bus to Griggs place

Bus:

Buses to the Grange are:

  • 1 From Elephant and Castle
  • 42 or 78 From Liverpool Street Station
  • 188 From Waterloo or Bermondsey Station (to Grange Road)
  • C10 or 343 From Borough Station (C10) to Bermondsey Street (Bus stop A)
    • § From Borough Station (343) to Grange Road/Caledonian Market
E.g.:
  • Bus 78 from Liverpool St stop
  • Left towards Nunhead/St Marys Road
  • Get off 23 mins later at Griggs Place stop
  • Which is 1 minute from the college


What can I bring into the event?

1. Plinths are provided as this is a teaching college

2. Tea, coffee, soft drinks will be provided

3. Please bring a packed lunch (there is a kitchen with kettles and microwaves), or some lunch money, the nearest places to buy sandwiches are Tesco and Sainsbury supermarket both 5 minutes within each other on Tower Bridge Road.

4. Please bring note pad and pen

5. Please come suitably dressed for a very practical workshop
